Summary: As Tony works up his courage to tell Ziva how he feels about her, she has news of her own that turns his world upside down.
He climbed the hill watching the sway of her hips & the flex of her thighs. It was truly a sight to behold, and with a view like that, he could have climbed all day.
She could feel his eyes on her as he followed up her the hill, so she put a little extra swagger in her step; she felt his smile widen in response and knew that she had been played.
Looking over her shoulder she said "Don't start with me DiNozzo"
"Oh, it's waaaay too late for that, Agent David"
Before she could counter with another quip of her own, they reached the top of the hill where Gibbs was waiting with two bottles of water. He tossed one to each of them and said “Keep yourselves hydrated, it’s hot out here.”
As Tony passed by, Gibbs reached out and gave him a sharp slap to the back of the head.
“Hey, what was that for?” questioned a bewildered Tony
“You know” was the only answer forthcoming from their boss.
As she walked past him to follow Gibbs back down to the bottom of the hill, she patted his back and chuckled in that deep throaty way of hers “Guess we know who the favorite is today, yes?”
There were times, like right now, when he wanted to take her by the hips and pull her close to him. He wanted to experience her.
Not so much sexually; though she did turn him on more than any woman he had ever met, but more for the physical contact - as a way to bridge all the unspoken words and emotions that flowed between them.
He wanted to feel her, smell her, and know her in ways that he had ever thought possible. He wanted to climb the heights of their unconsummated intimacy and plunge into its depths.
But while he tiptoed around the edges of her, he was always very careful never to touch – at least not in a way that would potentially open the door. The one that he instinctively knew – once opened, could never be closed again.
He sometimes thought he saw an invitation in the twinkling of her eyes, and something like acceptance in her smile – the one she reserved just for him – the one she was giving him right now. But he wasn’t entirely sure if what he was seeing was real or imagined - and while he longed to fling that door wide and run across the threshold, he knew it must remain closed.
So, he just flicked the brim of her hat and replied “Only until we get back to the lab.”
Abby wiped the sweat from her face and neck with a clean towel while Ziva changed into a dry T-shirt.
“Hey, let’s stop by Mike’s on the way home and grab a drink” offered Abby “It’s two for one mega- margaritas night”
Ziva looked down at herself and then at Abby, both were still dressed for their Birkam Yoga class “We aren’t exactly dressed for a night out – and we smell.” chuckled Ziva as she wiped her face with her shirt.
“So, who are we trying to impress?” countered Abby
Ziva shrugged and replied “I could use a drink, I guess”
“Great, meet you there”
Abby arrived at Mike’s Bar to find Ziva already at a table near the back fending off the flirtations of an obviously new waiter as he delivered two mega-margaritas.
Giving Ziva a quick kiss on the cheek as she rounded the table and plopped down into her chair she said “Sorry, I’m late sweetheart – got hung up in a little traffic. Thanks for ordering for me, love”
Ziva winked coyly in response
Thinking the girls were a couple, and not wanting to waste his charm, the waiter deposited the drinks on their table and beat a quick retreat back to his station at the bar.
Abby laughed as she clinked glasses with Ziva “Works every time”
After a few minutes of good natured complaining about their aches and pains from the yoga class, Abby threw Ziva a curve ball in the way of a question “So, have you told Tony yet?
Ziva had the good graces to look embarrassed before she answered “No. Not yet”
“Didn’t think so” smirked Abby “He seemed in a really good mood when he left the office today and your news – kind of a mood killer”
Ziva sighed deeply in response.
“You have to tell him Ziva. If he finds out on his own, well… I don’t know what his reaction will be”
“He’s not going to find out Abby”
“You know Tony, Ziva. He can sniff out a secret like a bloodhound, especially if it involves you. You told me you were going to tell him last week. If you keep putting it off much longer– you won’t have to worry about telling him, because – well, because it’s going to be kind of obvious”
“Tomorrow” promised Ziva “tomorrow, I will tell him”
