I'm curious

I will have to watch this to see him play someone other than Tony.  I have to admit I have not been blown away by his movie role choices (more like horrified - but we won't go there - hee).

In my mind our beloved cast will always and forever be our beloved NCIS characters.  I couldn't even watch Certain Prey with Mark Harmon because I couldn't see him as anyone other than Gibbs.  These are the dangers of typecasting and of playing the same character for years at a time (and can be a real career killer) if they can't break away.

You know what's sad? The guy that played Ray - he's on CSI, and he was on something before that. And everytime I see him, I think "RAY - hiss!" ... I hissed at his poor innocent, good guy character on the CSI finale much to the amusement of my mom. Only a handful of episodes and he's forever Ray. Poor guy. And I knew who he was before NCIS!

And I saw Mike Franks on something else (I don't even know what) and I didn't even look at the TV screen before saying "FRANKS!"

So yes - they're always going to be those characters - but Sasha's done a good job of not being Kate on her new show, and I think with the right script, any of them could be someone else.

And I rather like him in Dark Angel and I don't think "TONY" when I watch old episodes of it. (Granted - he is why I'm watching it)

Meanwhile - why is he working on something else - shouldn't he be focusing on inking a new contract?

He knows he's got them by the short & curlies - it wouldn't be NCIS without Tony! So my guess is that he's biding his time and letting his agent do all the preliminary negotiating.

I have to watch Dark Angel one of these days...

Sounds a bit like typecasting, unfortunately. I would have preferred it if he had a different persona rather than a "ladies' man" like Tony. Oh well, he's a great actor, so I guess we'll see how fresh he can make this character.

I agree on the ladies man thing - but he plays a con man and sounds almost a little creepy in some of the other published reports on this (he is sleeping with ALL his female clients) and I am actually hoping that I dispise his character and don't see anything of Tony in him.

MW is a good actor - as Tony - I have not been impressed with his acting in his movie roles or even in Dark Angel (but those are all several years ago).

Yeah, my first thought was, "So, basically he's playing Tony."

I've never seen him in anything else, but I'd like to watch Dark Angel and see what he's like in that.

I was a fan of Mark Harmon long before NCIS, but I have to agree, after watching him for so many years as Gibbs, something that seems to fit him so well, I do a double take when I see him outside of that role now.

I can't help but see Michael Weatherly as Logan Cale in Dark Angel. That was such a great role for him.

I've been a Mark Harmon movie for years, and Gibbs is not my favourite Mark role. Not by a long shot!

yeah, to me they are tied to those characters and it's hard for me to see them as anyone else.

I (tried) watching Dark Angel just because of MW - can't do it. I just can't connect with the character or the show. Had to do a pass on that one.

My favourite NCIS actor other role is Mark Harmon as Special Agent Donovan on The West Wing. But this was pre-NCIS. After 10 years of playing Gibbs, I think any role he plays will now be inflected with a little bit of Gibbs.

Did you ever see the horror/thriller flick MW did? I cannot remember what it was called, but it had all these corpses at the bottom of a lake that were dressed up in costumes? My sister and I were flipping through the channels late one night, and got all happy by MW on-screen. It was like a train wreck after 5 minutes. So. Painful. But, couldn't tear our eyeballs away...I absolutely cannot watch DA b/c of Alba. I loathe her. And I still think of MH as Donovan, too...hehe, my age is showing ;)

I used to watch Dark Angel, long before I knew who MW was... I just sat there and thought: "The guy in the wheelchair is cuuuute!", besides that, the show was boring for me, Jessica Alba was annoying :P

Hopefully, this will be a good role for him - I had to laugh when I read that he is "bedding all the Israeli mob wives that are his clients".

I was like "I know a Israeli that you can bed..."
