Author's note:  My (100 word) attempt at Tony’s thoughts in the elevator as I was confused as to why his face reflected irritation, then bewilderment and finally love when confronted with a tearful Ziva.

 

 

 

Why does she do this to me?  I was in the process of making myself believe that I could live without her.  I have worked hard these long weeks to try to fit a square peg into a round hole, and I was making progress – it wasn’t pretty but it was working.  Substituting her was painful, but necessary.

And now she needs me – she needs me – never before has she needed me, never has she let me this far in, never has she let me see.  How can I deny her when I love her?  All but her is forgotten
