dragonheart: (Ducky ssshhhh)

While it will never be one of my favorite NCIS episodes - I still give it a win.

The Good Stuff:
Ducky, Ducky and more Ducky!  And what's not to like about Ducky?

I did think his scenes with Mary felt forced and uncomfortable - no chemistry (sorry). And while I love Cheryl Ladd - I just didn't see her for this part.

My favorite Ducky scenes were his interactions with the team; especially the ones with Palmer in the morgue and the one with Gibbs at the end - both were heart breaking & heart warming - at the same time.

I am loving beyond love the team interactions in this season.  I am hoping that TPTB continue in this vein.  It really makes me happy when we have good team vibes going on and this episode was chock full of them.

And of course, I wouldn't be a loyal T/Z shipper if I didn't squee over the Tony and Ziva interaction this week - while not exactly shippy it was easy, friendly and even intimate.  Yes, my little Tiva heart approves.

The Not so Good Stuff:
I had Mary pegged as the baddie pretty much from the beginning and I really hate that TPTB choose to go that route for Ducky's "love interest".  And more father issues? meh!

The case was mildly interesting - the best part was the use of ecstasy to cause the extreme thirst which led to water intoxication and death.

So while I did have "issues" with this episode I am still giving it a win vote just for the sheer Duckiness of it.

And once again I think this proves why our team doesn't need to date. The significant other as a baddie is getting old. Rivkin, Abby's stalked ex, that chick Gibbs kissed that one time (I don't remember what episode), Michelle, that chick that ripped of McGeeMs credit card...

Almost makes me want Ray to be a good guy.

Almost.

You hit on many of the reasons why this episode, at least for me, just didn't hit the mark. Lack of anything but the most subtle of Tiva aside, I've really enjoyed eps 2-5. Ep 1 was passable, but tempered by some interesting Tiva moments that served to elevate the general feel from meh to something more than meh. This one, however, just didn't do it for me. I enjoyed the team feel, the continued emphasis on our characters as a deeply connected family, but, to me, the A story just fell completely flat. Introducing a character just to unrealistically deconstruct her in the final 10 minutes just felt contrived and rushed and completely implausible. And doing it to Ducky in that way just felt unnecessary and cruel. Furthermore, the continued emphasis on Daddy issues is getting so repetitive, it's laughable. I love that the show is taking a much more personal look at the characters, and it's nice that everybody seems to have gotten their moment in the sun, but featuring 6 characters in 6 back-to-back episodes is making it feel less special and more gimicky.

I know that most reaction to this one has been positive. I'll just to add it to the list currently populated by the Enemies 2-parter and Chimera as episodes I just 'didn't get'.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the scenes between Ducky & Mary were forced and uncomfortable.

And such an obvious baddie *sighs*

Still lots of Ducky *g*

I too hope the team interaction continues.
