Okay, let's give this puppy a try.....
Dec. 21st, 2011 06:03 pmwith all the changes going on at LJ - a few of us are considering abandoning ship and moving on over to DW.
If that is the case, I should probley give this puppy a test drive....

Date: 2011-12-21 11:17 pm (UTC)Everyone is saying how easy DW is and how you can inport everything from LJ into DW, but I am not so sure.
I don't like the set up -I know it's new & different, and I don't always deal well with changes - I am thinking DW may not be for me.
I will play around with it some more and see.
Do you have a DW account? Another issue - a significant number of my friends don't have DW accouts.
Speaking of which - I haven't figured out to search for a DW user - that circle thing confuses me.

While I might like the icons someone puts out, I may not be ready to grant that access to my personal journal. On DW, I could just subscribe to their journal, get any updates on my friends page, but they would not have access to my flocked posts.

Date: 2011-12-21 11:20 pm (UTC)I'm hoping they fix it and we don't have to go anywhere ... but it makes some comm things rather impossible. Jamie switched our comments to match the layout so she had a subject box, but anything comment heavy (like bingo) is probably going to crash the page ... not to mention how messy to read it will be with lots of comments and such.
I love how they "fixed" something that wasn't broken.
What I really hate is the change to icons, because the pics won't load on my phone and I can't choose by word like before ... so I can't do any challenge from other landcomms from my phone because I can't use a sig icon. :(
BUT ... I love my LJ friends and won't jump without them. On dw I'm "whiteink" and I'll set up my writing comm tonight ... rumor is we'll be able to import comms soon (WHICH I REALLY WANT!!!! I've wanted that BEFORE all this becasue it would be a back-up site for my fics and I wouldn't have to work so hard to back them up!)
EDIT: What really irks me is the "they'll adjust" attitude we seem to be getting from LJ.

Date: 2011-12-21 11:29 pm (UTC)I'm currently in the process of importing my LJ to DW and see what happens to the links (like my fanfic masterlist... EEK) and if it doesn't work the way I want it to, I'll probably manually upload everything again to DW. At least this is giving me a chance to start ALL OVER with a NEW NAME. I want something shorter.

Date: 2011-12-21 11:35 pm (UTC)I looked at doing it and chickened out when it said "this is a irreversible process"
the word ireversible always scares me

Date: 2011-12-22 03:50 am (UTC)I did cancel my automatic renewal for LJ. My account doesn't expire until June, so I'll be here for awhile yet, anyway. If we can move comms over there, we could still have
A couple of things I've read tonight suggest to me that there's no going back as far as the comment changes are concerned. For one thing, apparently they paid big bucks for this rewrite. Also, the attitude we're getting is very condescending..."oh, they'll get used to it" and such. They simply don't care that we're pissed off. Well, they WILL care very soon, because a LOT of people who are commenting on their release are turning off auto-renewal and are not planning to stay once their paid time expires.
Essentially, I could write a case study for a first-year university business school class on what NOT to do if you want to keep your customers happy, and use LJ as the model.
