NCIS Episode Review: 9.17 Need to Know
Feb. 29th, 2012 08:37 amAnother “old school” NCIS episode and I loved it. It had a good case, a good “bad guy”, and lots of laugh out loud moments. I miss LOLing while I watch NCIS. Maybe I am getting hardened and cynical in my old age, but it takes a lot for a TV show to get a good laugh (not just a chuckle) out of me. Now, that’s not to say there weren’t things about the episode that I didn’t like, because there were two glaring problems for me, but I will get to those later. First up – what I liked:
Liked:
· Interesting case – death by remote controlled pace maker – awesome.
· Ducky shopping on line for Palmer and Breena’s wedding gift and finding internet registerys distasteful (I personally like them – the couple gets exactly what they want, no duplicated gifts, etc)
· Ziva is speaking at a High School “Career Day” and she is terrified of public speaking (awwww)
· McGee can perfectly forge Tony’s signature (he has been doing it for awhile, Ziva knew about it and oddly Tony is nonplussed about it)
· Agent Ned Dorneget “Dorny” sucking up to Gibbs
· Dorny’s “buick” (one of my LOL moments)
· McGee showing a little jealousy about Dorny being at Abby’s place the night before
· McGee giving Dorny advice on Gibbs and about the job & calling him Probie
· Dorny forgetting his gun but remembering his handcuffs
· McGee has his own set of rules and #1 is Never lie to Gibbs
· McGee & Dorneget now have a secret about Ava’s escape
· Ziva unwittingly issuing a challenge to Tony “You may have gotten inside Dorneget’s head, but you are not gonna get inside mine” Tony’s face totally said “challenge accepted”. A part of me thinks this might be why he was overly interested in Ava Baransky (more on that later)
· So, Dorneget is gay. I am actually a little surprised – NCIS is a pretty conservative show, but I think it was handled well and personally I am glad to see a little diversity on the show and I am glad that Dorny will be back for future episodes.
· Agah Bayar is back as the bad guy and his voice makes me all warm and gooey on the inside – seriously, I hope we get LOTS of interrogation scenes when he comes back. And, he will be back – something tells me he will be part of the season ending arc. I love a “good” bad guy.
· The whole case was based on a DIA sting operation – too bad no one read Chief Petty Officer Riley in on that Need to Know information. He was a pawn in that game called espionage.
Dislikes:
· The autopsy interrogation scene with Gibbs and Tony bordered on torture. It was painful for me to watch. I kept hoping that Ducky would step in and put a stop to it and I really thought he would – but then he announced he was stepping out for tea. All three of them took a dent in the integrity department on that one.
· Why in the heck did they regress Tony to a blubbering idiot over the Ava chick? Yes, she was really hot and at first it was funny, but by the time he was pacing the bullpen in anticipation of McGee & Dorneget’s return so he could grill Dorny on exactly how hot she was – well, that was just sad. Part of me thinks it was done for Ziva’s benefit (and she had some jealousy vibes going – I hate when they play the jealousy card) because it was so overt, so over the top and out there that it made Tony look like an idiot. I hope it was a brain game being played by Tony because if he regresses back to this – meh! And that is not my Tiva ship talking – that is my I love Tony & don’t want him to be an idiot talking.
Our next episode (airing 03/20/12) is 9.18 The Tell which brings back JLC as Dr. Samantha Ryan and introduces her new right hand man played by Sean Astin (who GG says will be back for more episodes).
Can you believe that we only have 7 more episodes until the end of Season 9?

I have never been so troubled by a Gibbs interrogation scene before - and he's done some pretty awful things. But this . . . This overstepped any line of acceptability or decency. And what made it worse was how long Reardon looked. He looked like a mid-range teenager. Awful, so awful. I was shocked and disgusted to be honest.
