Comment on this post with ‘I love libraries’ and I’ll give you seven things I want you to talk about. They may make sense or they may be totally random.

Then post that list to your journal with your commentary. Other people can get lists from you and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

Writing – I have a love/hate relationship with writing. When all is going well and the dragon muse is doing his job, I love it as it fills a hole in my fan girl psyche; but, when the dragon is just blowing smoke at me and the bunnies are off to parts unknown doing bunny things – I admit to feeling a bit frustrated with the whole concept of writing. I write almost exclusively for the NCIS fandom.  NCIS is known for leaving a few gaping holes in plots, back stories and character development, which makes it ripe for fanfiction.  I remember the day I discovered fanfiction.net and I thought “Holy Cow, Batman,  here’s a place you can take your favorite characters from your favorite shows, make up stories about them, post those stories on line and not only will people actually read them but they tell you what they think about them!” For me, writing fanfiction grew out of a love of reading fanfiction, it just seemed like the next natural step in the “fangirl” process. I am still relatively new to writing (less than two years in) and I know I have much room for improvement, and I also know I will never be one of the fandom’s great fanfic writers, but I have my little group of friends who like my stories and whom aren’t overly critical; and that’s all this fanfic writer needs at the end of the day.

Family – Is the heart and soul of who I am. My husband and son are my whole world. My sisters, parents and nieces and nephew make that world spin. I can’t imagine life without my family and I don’t even want to try. I would die for any one of them and I know they would do the same for me (although I would never let that happen).

Guns – guns and gun ownership is a divisive subject and for every person who can spout the virtues of owning guns there is someone else whose life was shattered by someone with a gun. I can see both sides of the argument, and I don’t think either side will ever win – so I will speak for me personally and won’t pretend to speak for others who own guns: I like my guns and shoot them competitively, I am licensed to carry a concealed weapon (but never have and never will) I need the CC as a sport shooter, my family owns a lot of guns, but we NEVER take that responsibility lightly and NEVER forget the damage a gun can do. That being said, I enjoy shooting – it is fun and I have a natural affinity for it.  It is something I work hard at and it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I do well. It’s not a cheap sport – guns and ammo are expensive – range time is expensive – it’s not for everyone – but it is for me.

Shopping - I have 10 rules for shopping:

1.      Just because they make it in my size doesn’t mean I should wear it

2.      If I am not entirely sure about something, I don’t buy it

3.      If I don’t buy something and I am still thinking about it a week later – I go back and get it

4.      I don’t mind paying full price for quality

5.      I refuse to pay full price for anything faddish or trendy

6.      If I can’t find the right shoes and/or accessories for an outfit within a week – it goes back to the store because chances are I never will

7.       Never shop out of boredom or because I have nothing else to do

8.      I am not an old lady, but I am not a teenager either – so don’t buy clothes from either of those sections of the store – I don’t care how “cute” it is.

9.      A friend’s opinion is good, but mine is better – I know what I will wear or won’t wear and what I feel comfortable in.

10. Never, ever, ever, ever shop with my husband

Science – mankind’s greatest blessing and his biggest curse. Science has eased our burdens, cured our ills and made life easier to live. It has also killed us, maimed us and stressed us out. At the end of the day, I am still an advocate for the sciences and all the advancements it brings us, but I am careful to remember that with great knowledge and power comes great responsibility and science without responsibility = a curse.

Caving – one of my favorite things to do. I wish that I could do it more, but it’s not exactly an easy sport to do every weekend. I am so thankful that I have a best friend who is just as adventurous as I am – although sometimes I think we are bad for each other because it’s nothing for us to say – let’s go underground zip lining or learn to cave dive (which is on our list). I haven’t been on cave trip in about a year (we didn’t get to go into the cave on our last girl’s trip because another friend joined us at the last minute and she refuses to go into a cave. So, I think Lesia and I are due for one this year.

Shoes – I have a thing for shoes – I admit it. I love them and I have a closet full of them. I have a shoe for every occasion. A good pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. I am 5’2” tall – my husband is 6’6” and my son is 6’4” – so it stands to reason that I need a little help in the height dept. Very rarely will you find me wearing something that has less than a 2” heel (unless its summer and I do love a good pair of flip flops or jandals (yes, Alice – I remembered). Besides wearing at least 2” heel instantly makes you look 10 lbs thinner. Don’t believe me? Try it, you will be amazed

I liked the fanfic story.

I don't like guns, but I do like that you're really responsible with them.

5.      I refuse to pay full price for anything faddish or trendy

I refuse to pay full price of anything, unless full price is under $20.

2" heels thats like 5cm (?) ha, I'd topple over. And Jandals, awesome.

I love how all your shopping rules revolve around clothing! You never even mentioned grocery shopping, car shopping, or anything else. You are such a girl! Hee! :D

Oh, BTW...I love libraries.
