I subscribe to various sundry of communities - anything from crock pot cooking to werewolf bigbang.

I have found more often than not I just scroll on past the postings from these communities to get to what I am really interested in - the postings by my friends. Sometimes I will bookmark a posting thinking I will come back later to read it - usually I don't.

So, this morning I did a little journal housekeeping and unwatched, unfollowed and unsubscibed to the vast majority of these communities.  Pretty much the only ones left are NCIS related.  Looks like I am a one trick pony in more ways than one.

It made a huge difference in my journal - now I can focus on the things that are really important to me - my friends and my show.

Should have done this long ago!

LOL I think we all did that when we first came here - checked out the myriad of communities that we might possibly have an interest in and at least subscribed to, if not joined, a whole whack of them. It's kind of the natural cycle of things; until you see what actually gets posted in those places, you've no way of knowing whether they'll really be of interest to you. After awhile, you know what you want to keep and you can pare it down to a more manageable level.

I've done a little bit of paring down since I arrived, as well. [community profile] tea_musings, [community profile] knitting and [community profile] writethisfanfic are three that I kept, and that have provided me with some interesting connections outside of the NCIS fandom. But those are really the essential ones, and I find three is manageable.

Oh, but let's not forget the wonderful [community profile] nuggan, which is always good for a laugh, and [community profile] metaquotes too.

[personal profile] proseac is right. I did it too. I think I'm down to a handful of things that I follow anymore. The biggest of which is Kink Bingo.

And happy birthday!

I was messing around yesterday and realized that the filter functionality is awesome sauce, and can resolve this problem very nicely. Because I didn't want to be jumping back & forth to LJ just to see what my remaining friends over there are up to, I wanted to create feeds for their journals. In the process, I ended up finding several OTHER feeds that looked really interesting, so I actually added some stuff to my journal in exact opposition to your post here!

BUT...I can filter all that out VERY easily by selecting journals only, or communities only, or feeds only. You can also create custom filters, which I'm going to do, so I can add to the DW journals list all the LJ feeds that relate to my friends' journals.

Problem solved!
