Cruise as Reacher? Seriously?

I just read that a Jack Reacher novel is being made into a major motion picture.  I almost danced a gig until I read further and saw that Tom Cruise will be playing Reacher.

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher?  Really?  Can't see it - not for a million years.

And the icing on my irritation cupcake?  According to the article - Cruise was Lee Child's first choice for the role.

Obviously he is going for box office draw instead of character authenticity.

That sucks... I just got into the novels and would love to see a movie, but I will not go to any movie with Tom Cruise in it. At least I won't pay for it. I'll grab a download somewhere, but that bastard isn't getting a single dime of my money.

I am so disappointed.

I can't imagine any fan of the series will be excited about this. I don't like TC, but even taking my personal feelings about him out of the equation - he is just not a good fit for the role.

I doubt I will go to see it in theatres - I will catch it on DTV.

Which only reinforces the snub I feel as a fan.

I don't know who Jack Reacher is, but the trailer was promoted today here, and I saw it, and I thought it was cool... but then again, I don't know who this character is.

oh I am sure the movie will be really good because it's based off of an excellent series and I am sure I would enjoy it a lot if only I can get past TC playing the main character.
