Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink – the words from the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner kept running through his mind, although he didn’t know why as it was not water that he saw everywhere he looked, but sand .

 

Maybe it was because like the ancient mariners when he looked out at the empty vastness around him the only thing he saw was death staring back at him.

 

The sand was no more likely to give up her dead than the sea and as the sea was her final resting place it only seemed fitting that the sand would be his.
