Episode: Out of the Frying Pan - 8.18
I am of a mixed mind on this episode. After my initial viewing I really liked it, but after it has had a while to percolate in my little brain, I find I have some issues.
Initially what I liked about this episode is that is wasn’t 8.17 – that one has left scars that I am afraid
will take some time to heal.
I won’t bore you with the blow by blow but here is a list of what I did and didn’t like about this episode – in random order from my viewing notes:
Likes
• episode was story driven as opposed to character driven – a nice little change of pace
• Tony and Gibbs in the interrogation room – bad cop Tony was hot! I would hold out on any type of confession just to keep him in the room – yummy
• That kid was awesome – he stole every scene he was in
• No EJ (in person)
• EJ’s locked desk – what’s she got locked up in there? Seems McGee wants to know too. Love that Ziva could care less.
• No jealousy vibes from Ziva – she was merely curious about EJ even though it was obvious that Tony has had some type of contact with her – he looked guilty – feeling conflicted there Tony?
• Abby and McGee at the crime scene mock up – her “it just needs Timmy care” when speaking of the blood soaked computer tablet – these two make me smile – love them – shippy or not.
• Abby telling Gibbs that computers are like zombies – you have to kill the brain in order for them to die – and showing him the retrieved computer chip and the email evidence – classic Abby
• Ducky and Ziva scene – these two mesh and I like it
• The confrontation between Gibbs and Vance setting us up for a throw down between these two. But I am still confused where all this animosity from Vance is coming from – one episode they are getting along great and the next *poof* almost enemies.
• Harmon, Weatherly and Carroll brought their game – they acted their butts off. Kudos gentlemen
Dislikes
• Gibbs reluctance to investigate the case – even before he knew Vance’s ulterior motive – usually he is all about justice for the marine – so why the big show of not wanting to do it? Very OOC for me.
• Where’s Palmer? I miss him
• Ducky and the weird nursery rhymes over the dead body. What is that all about? I really like his anecdotal stories, but this felt “hinky” and not at all like the respectful ME that is Ducky. He bears some watching – are they intentionally taking this somewhere or just another example of the on and off character assassinations we have been seeing for the past couple of seasons.
• Vance’s interrogation of Nick – so far off base for a director of a federal agency – especially one with a personal interest in the case – it was hard to suspend belief on this one. Give us a little credit here.
• The EJ phone call at the end was gratuitous at best – yeah we know she is Vance’s new “go to gal” and that Gibb’s will be on the outside looking in – just another reason to not like her as far as I am concerned.
• Ok, I may be mistaken, but is EJ the only one with a nameplate on her desk? Fancy that.
• Gibbs calling Tony “lover boy” – a reference to his dalliance with EJ? Ugh that one hurt my little Tiva heart.
