dragonheartI went into this episode with high expectations. I was not disappointed.
Was it perfect? No. The case was weak and convoluted. I tend to get cranky when the case doesn't hold up. I like solid cases. But that's my only complaint and I am willing to look past it because - by golly it's all about McGee this week!
Lily Tomlin rocked Granny McGee. I have to admit when I first read about her playing the part, I wasn't sure she was a good fit. She happily proved me wrong. She was perfect. Everyone was charmed by her and she enabled us to see a part of McGee that we haven't seen before. Hope to see her again on a purely social basis -maybe see McGee talking to her on the phone every now and again or mentioning he is taking her to dinner. She's too awesome a character never to be heard from again.
I loved that Tim stood up to Gibbs when he thought Gibbs was being too hard on Penny. I love that Gibbs was proud of him for doing so. Anyone else think that Gibbs intentionally set that up? Tim's family revelations broke my heart. I wanted to hug him so many times!
Tony was awesome. He was a real friend to Tim. I liked that - alot. Tony is growing up. As much as I hated that whole P2P and the mole arc, I have to say it helped Tony come into his own. I hope the change is permanent. He is still fun Tony, but idiot Tony seems to be gone. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Loved the easy vibe between Tony and Ziva. No overt Tiva in this episode, but I liked what I saw. They are regrouping and getting their groove back. Progress. Baby steps in the right direction. My little shipper heart approves.
Not much Abby or Ducky. Disappointed in that. I know we have Abby and Ducky centric episodes coming up this season and I am very happy about that, but I would really like to see more of them each week. We did learn that Ducky has been in love many times - just not lately. Was that a little teaser about his new love interest storyline coming up? I liked that Ducky and Penny had a dinner "date". Sweet.
The ending scene with Penny telling Tony and Ziva about little Timmy and the red pumps was cute. Something a grandmother would do. I actually got a little teary when Ziva told Penny that is was she and Tony who were lucky to work with Tim. The look on his face when she said that was precious.
So far I am very happy with Season 9. I am hopeful that this is the season where our team gets their mojo back and we see more of the old NCIS - the one I fell in love with.
