Ramblings of a Whiplashed Fangirl

I am beginning to think that I am in over my head with this fangirl stuff.

I was literally awake all night conflicted/confused/concussed (take your pick) over last night’s episode.

One of the things that make me really good at my job is that my mind likes to take things apart – look at all the tiny pieces – analyze them – and put them back together in a way that makes sense.  Sometimes, I put things back together in ways that the originator didn’t intend.  Sometimes it works better – other times – not.  Great attribute for an engineer – not so much for a fangirl.

Right now I am suffering from a severe case of shipper whiplash.  I am vacillating between the idea that last night’s episode was the beginning of the end of Tony and Ziva and the idea that it was a giant leap forward in their non-relationship relationship.

I can give you a list to support each theory – I was up all night formulating them. But at the end of the day it is all just rambling and musing on my part.  Gary Glasberg hasn’t seen fit to share his grand plan with me, so I guess I will have to wait and see how it all turns out.

So - right now, this fangirl is confused and anxiously awaiting the next two episodes with EJ and Ray.  I have a feeling those episodes will either kill me or revive me.

Crossing my fingers it’s the latter.  It’s gonna be a looooonnnngggg three weeks.

I know, see??? This could so go either way! And methinks that what they (TPTB) do in the next two eps, will likewise, kill me off, or bring back in for more. *sigh* Do we really have to wait three whole weeks???

Yes, three long weeks. Next episode is not until 01/03/12.

I think it is the EJ returns episode. And Ray returns the very next week on 01/10/12.

So by middle of January - we will know if we are happy T/Z shippers or shippers looking for another ship to sail.

I will ship them even if TPTB sink the ship. In my little fantasy world of fanfiction, it will never sink!

I will ship them forever, but it won't be as much fun if TPTB kill off the possibility.

I don't care if they ever actually get together, but I would like the possibility to be there.

Right now all my shipper eggs are in the T/Z basket - I don't have another pair that I really & truly "ship" - if they get sidelined by other romances on the show - I will have to find someone else to help fulfill my shipper tendencies - although T/Z will always be my OTP.

I am actually in full on panic mode. This could turn out either really good or really bad.

Tony did say Wendy was his past and he didn't actually go to brunch with her (although he did more than think about it - he actually drove there) - but Ziva encouraging him with Wendy has me more concerned than anything especially in light of Ray's return next month.

I no longer watch the show - gave up in s8 - but wonder: what do you think the chances are that the Ray ep involves a marriage proposal and her accepting? Based on what I've read about season 9 thus far, I'm going to have to say 50/50 myself.

I am going to have to agree.

Ziva was actually encouraging Tony to hook up with Wendy - his ex-fiance.

I could take that in two different directions (hence my whiplash) but because I can - 50/50 on the marriage proposal sounds about right.

Of course she was. IMO, she's over him - has been for a really long time - and as a friend (which is how I think she's seen him for a while, probably season 6 and 7 and 8 when he was so insistent that he wasn't jealous toward any males interested in her), she's got to be aware that he isn't especially happy at the moment. Hence, she's encouraging him to see someone who once made him happy. In old sitcom jargon, Tony is now the mayor of the Friend's zone and, as far as I'm concerned, he deserves it. Ziva put herself out there for him enough times and got smacked down that it's only logical for her to sigh and just move on with her life. Which is why I continue to hold out hope (even though I gave up on the show and don't watch it) that Ray is an awesome and amazing dude. She deserves someone to love her and since Tony doesn't have the balls or the maturity to do more than tug at her pigtails and run away like a 6 year old, then its definitely time for her to move on.

The whole Wendy retcon, though, that actually annoys me since they were pretty clear in season 4 that Jeanne was the first woman who he well and truly loved ... but now they've shoehorned in another "tragic past love" because they honestly can't really let Tony completely evolve as a character (as that would require him getting his own team and moving on.)

Gah. Even though I don't watch the show anymore, I'm consistently amazed how worked up I can get over what it's become...

I am glad I am trying not to over think it.. It's not going well.. BUT I am trying.. I got all whiny about Deeks last night instead of Tony ... BUT 3 weeks is a long time....... I would rather never see EJ or Ray again, but we need to get rid of them so we don't have to suffer anymore with the what ifs..

This whole Ziva maybe accepting Ray thing and Ziva pushing Tony towards Wendy is RUINING MY SEASON THEORY!! THIS IS SEASON 9.. it is SUPPOSE to be a TIVA season.. IT JUST IS SUPPOSE TO BE!! .. I think I even said that at one point during the episode.

5 = TIVA
6 = Rivkin
7 = TIVA
8 = Ray/EJ
9 = IN THEORY IS SUPPOSE TO BE TIVA!! Pay attention here TPTB!! It's the shippers turn this year!

We must have faith. NCIS seldom give the main characters really big changes, that mess with things (eg Tony not getting his own team). If Ziva does get engaged it won't be for long because she'll get sick of his lies, not want to end up like her mother, or because it's NCIS, he'll die. EJ won't last long, they might even kill her. And Tony already blew his chance with Wendy. So, they can both sit at Palmers wedding single and well who knows.

That being said, I don't want it to be happen on the show, I just want the possibility.

First of all,
Hi! First time commenting, but love your fics so I've been sneaking around for some time :)

I had the same problem you did, and I still can't make up my mind.
One thing that kept me on the positive side was Tony's bucket list, especially nr. 26 since I just can't see who else "Her" would be and what else he would say (besides the obvious) that is important enough to land on the list.

Fingers crossed and cant wait for the next couple of eppies.

When I read your posting - I wanted to *head desk* - the bucket list - of course. (duh!) How could I have forgotten about the bucket list?

We now can effectively cross Wendy off the contenders list for "her". If he had anything he wanted to tell her - this was the prime time to do so and yet he kept her in the past where she belongs.

Like you I have all available appendenges crossed for the next episodes. Nervous anticipation.
