Signed up for my first bigbang challenge - right in the middle of a writing dry spell. What the heck am I thinking?

Actually, I am thinking this is exactly what I need to get me out of my motivational slump and back into the driver's seat so to speak.

It just might be what you need too!

Yay! I'm doing it too. I'll hold your hand. XD

It'll be fun - the key is to find a story arc that's epic enough to be worthy of 10,000 words. Warning: that's about what I thought Rules of Engagement was going to be. 78,000 words later...hmmm...hope that doesn't happen again! Hee!

Yay! Somebody to hold my hand! :D

I'm excited, but nervous. I know I can do it, but I just have to get myself into the mindset and make myself start the story. Once I start, I'll be fine.

78,000! I don't think so, but we'll see. :)

Cool! You have lots of time, so no worries.

My chapters usually wind up at between 1500-2000 words, so that's only 5 or 6 chapters to reach 10,000 total. I'm using that as my basis for designing a story arc that'll fit. The story will have to be a little less 'epic' than ROE! Hee!

I'm thinking of using the pacing of a typical 1-hour episode as a guide. There are usually several 'beats' you can identify in each segment between commercial breaks. If they can do a whole case from start to finish in about 5 segments, so can we, right?

That sounds like a very logical and smart way to go about writing the fic. I'm going to try that. Thanks so much for the suggestion. If I look at it in small bites, it doesn't seem so scary. :D

You're welcome! I think story-boarding is the way to go here. Because I have a tendency to go off on tangents, I need something to keep me focused and on-track. There's lots of info online about this technique, and one of my fave authors, [livejournal.com profile] jelenamichel, uses it extensively so I may pick her brain too.
