I love my ship – heck some days it dominates my thoughts (yeah, really- how sad is that?) but I don’t think it is the “only true ship” in the fandom.
I like it that my friends have different ships: there are het ships, slash ships, our team with original character ships, cross-over ships – all kinds of ships out there and I like reading them all.
What I don’t like is ship bashing and I got a mild taste of it this weekend – as most of you know I am writing a Tony and Kort “friendship” story and friendship is used rather loosely – they aren’t really friends, but circumstances are such that they have to work together. It is not a Tiva story per se, but Tiva is just under the surface, it is Tony’s feelings for Ziva that cause him to join forces with Kort.
I have a reader on FF.net who ships Tony/Trent and she loves the story and has asked a couple times if I would turn it into a slash pairing. I politely told her that I don’t see them as a couple and I don’t write slash – it’s just not my forte, besides the story is not a romance by the general definition, Ziva hasn’t even made an appearance, but rather a case-fic with a very slight Tiva undertone.
She then responded that if I turn my story into a Tiva story, she will quit reading – she despises Tiva and never reads anything even remotely Tiva related – and then proceeded to tell me all the ways that Tiva has ruined NCIS and that she may not read anymore anyway because she didn’t know I was a Tiva shipper –
Really? You won’t read a story that isn’t really a Tiva story, just because the writer ships Tiva?
And I thought I needed to get a life…..
